From the artist ~ “Plates (3). The central fountain motif in this painting is based on a detail seen on a small panel in the bathroom at Charleston. The fountain is painted with cross-hatching, a technique often used in early Italian art. The blue border of the simplified plate shape is created by thin washes of egg tempera blue pigment, with gold added to the green diamond shapes to create a bright, reflective surface.”
