Justine Ashbee
Anglo American artist Justine Ashbee has over 25 years of experience in the field of Textile Arts. Her work explores natural landscape, ephemeral realms of magic, and references temporal themes of alchemy in nature. The underlying aim in her work is to reconnect people with Nature, and bring awareness to these inherent interwoven relationships.
"When I create work, I am not so invested in what I want someone to think or feel, so much as I am invested in bringing the unseen into form, or evoking feelings and qualities that I experience that are unnamable and ineffable. People often describe the weavings as healing, meditative, reassuring, energising. I think I've always enjoyed a kind of simplicity and accessibility to my work that is uncomplicated. Our relationship to nature and spirituality doesn't need to be complicated. It can be felt, directly, and subjectively. When I take the time to really deeply enjoy the colors, light, and forms in Nature, I am humbled by the quiet enduring Grace of it all. For me, Nature is sacred and holy, and where I look to for reassurance and meaning."
