Charlotte Hardy

Charlotte’s work is driven by her imagination and love of pattern and nature. Decorative ceramics are set up in the studio with seasonal flowers and produce. Her whimsical narratives start to unfold in a playful and illustrative manner. Inspiration comes in many forms, from abundant gardens, the changing seasons, Folk and Outsider Art, textiles, and simply walking in nature. Bright colours are laid down first as under layers to add depth and luminosity. Next Charlotte starts to draw with paint, working with energy and expression. Charlotte is always aiming for the composition to have a sense of space and stillness, contrasting with the abundant character of the subject matter. Still life objects become a celebration of rich decoration.

Charlotte graduated with a first-class BA (Hons) in Printed Textile Design from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1999. Paintings has been published on greeting cards, stationary, garments, book covers and in editorials. Her work is held in a museum collection and is collected across the world. She has worked with Anthropologie, Penguin Books, Waitrose Food Illustrated Magazine and Nina Campbell. Charlotte has been the artist in residence at The Affordable Art Fair and run workshops at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Her work was selected for the Royal Academy Summer Show in 2024 and she is currently exhibiting in the Saatchi Store in London.
