Rosanna Messer Stalbow

Rosanna works mainly with textiles, using fabrics to collage bold colourful designs, evoking a joyful sense of rhythm and movement, with the traditional technique of appliqué.

After graduating from BA Costume for Performance at London College of Fashion in 2011, she has since created costumes in the industry on many productions across film, tv and theatre, recently including House of the Dragon and the new Frankenstein released in 2025.

Her background in costume and interest in silhouette, colour, pattern and texture, inform and influence her practice. The latest figurative motif in her work was developed over time, inspired by dance and an urge to record a moment in motion, keeping the movement alive on the page and conveying a sense of rhythm and joy within the characters. Natural forms and figures are simplified and translated into fluid, repeating shapes and patterns.

From her South London studio Rosanna works with gathered fabric remnants, and has found a place for them to tell a new story, as collaged works made up of memories of previous projects.

These pieces hold the energy of the shift in seasons, dancing to the rhythm of the earth as we unfold into spring.
