Kerry Louise Bennett

Kerry Louise Bennett’s practice is driven by a playful curiosity about the endless possibilities within colour, space, and form.

While her work falls within the ‘Still Life’ tradition, the approach is notably oblique. Paintings evolve slowly over many weeks, beginning with an uninhibited process of mark-making. From this, forms and shapes begin to surface, guiding the composition through multiple transformations and accumulating texture and patina along the way.

Atmosphere and narrative arise organically from unconscious decisions involving the interplay of colour, texture, and form. The resulting works are bold and contemporary, yet they also hold a quietness and a sense of nostalgia.

One of her greatest pleasures lies in discovering the story a painting wishes to tell. In this way, the work subtly distills and reflects a lifetime of memories, experiences, and observations.
