From the artist ~ Plates (1). One bird in flight and another walking are drawn on a simplified oval plate shape. The cobalt blue and red vermillion colour pallete is taken from Japanese Amari ware pottery. The edge of the plate is painted with ‘blue dashes’, a technique used on blue-dash chargers - large circular earthenware dishes made in England in the late 17 th and early 18th century. Fine gold powder isadded to the blue to create a bright, reflective surface.”
Measurements ~ 22.2 x 15 x 2.2 cm
